Transcendental Meditation and Sport
Transcendental Meditation can give you a competitive edge and help you to maintain peak performance in your chosen sport.

Increased Performance
The TM technique improves performance by strengthening the skills of concentration, mind-body co-ordination, reaction time, speed and agility. TM reduces anxiety and tension in the mind and body making the sportsperson more controlled and disciplined and therefore more likely to achieve set goals.

Improved rest and recovery
Sportspeople may experience the effects of sleep deprivation and jet lag. The TM technique provides a level of rest that is deeper than sleep, allowing the body to recover faster from these effects.

The TM technique releases stress that can be accumulated through intensive training, competition or injuries. This will allow for greater mental alertness and dynamic performance.

What sportspeople say about TM:
Allison Roe
Former world record holder in marathon and 20 kilometres, Television producer, triathlon coach and mother

"TM brings balance into my busy schedule. I wanted a technique that would ensure health, fitness and mental well-being. With TM I have the energy and vitality to work very long hours, exercise regularly, and still function well as a mother."
"Right from day one you see the improvements in your life - less stress and greater happiness. And from then it just gets better."

John Bracewell
Former international cricketer and coach at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club

“Your mind seems so much clearer all the time. You're less confused about decisions. You can find your arousal level that is required for your sport. The clarity of mind TM brings helps you find this level.”

“It helps you stay cool and exact under pressure. Whenever I'm under pressure now I've felt clearer - that the decision I've made is the right one.”

Peter Thorburn
All Black Selector and former North Harbour rugby coach.

"TM allows one to get a sense of relaxation and release stress. I feel it is improving my concentration."

Richard Turner

"Because I'm clearer in my mind I focus a lot better on what I'm meant to do. I have all this extra energy.”
"For me personally, meditating after a game - my recovery from game to game has just been remarkable. I'm not wound up as much before a game - I'm a lot more relaxed."

Ron Williams
Prop, North Harbour Rugby

"I've got greater clarity of mind and an increased ability to focus and approach the game in a very positive frame of mind. I feel I've got a lot more time to do things on the field because I'm more organized in my mind. I feel aerobically more comfortable since learning TM."
